With the Addition of More Sophisticated Aircraft, Aerolitoral Turns to the Sabre-Ramco System to Maintain, Engineer Fleet Airline Says Agreement Will Improve Performance, Reduce Costs

SOUTHLAKE, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 15, 2007–Aerolitoral, the regional airline of Aeromexico, in looking for ways to reduce costs in the face of the appreciation of the peso and increased competition on its routes to the United States, has turned to the alliance formed by Sabre Airline Solutions, the global leader of software and services for the airline industry, and Ramco Systems, a leader in maintenance, repair and overhaul software.

Aerolitoral has become the fourth airline to sign an agreement to have the Ramco MRO System efficiently maintain and engineer its fleet. By implementing the Ramco system, provided by Sabre Airline Solutions, Aerolitoral will be able to achieve optimal utilization of resources, improve performance and decrease costs. The Ramco software integrates with the Sabre Flight Control Suite for a single maintenance and engineering offering, giving airlines a vital tool to manage daily operations safely and efficiently.

“Aerolitoral decided to migrate to Sabre Airline Solutions and the Ramco system because we recognized the potential to reduce our direct and overhead costs and optimize inventory,” said Cesar Garcia, Aerolitoral’s vice president of maintenance and engineering. “Combined with the ability to ensure safety and regulatory compliance, the MRO solution will allow us to become more cost efficient and compete even more effectively in the Latin American marketplace.”

This is important for Aerolitoral, whose first quarter losses were attributed to a 19.1 percent drop in international traffic due to appreciation of the peso and increased competition to its three U.S. destinations: Los Angeles, Tucson, Ariz., and San Antonio. In addition, Aerolitoral connects passengers in 30 Mexican destinations to Aeromexico’s hubs in Tijuana, Hermosillo, Monterrey and Guadalajara.

The Ramco system, which was locally installed for Aerolitoral, is designed and developed to address all necessary business and regulatory requirements including maintenance projection, planning and scheduling, warranty and repair, and drill-down analysis and reporting.

“Airlines need effective maintenance and engineering of their fleets in today’s business environment where costs are increasing and competition is intensifying,” said Steve Clampett, president of Airline Products and Solutions for Sabre Airline Solutions. “The Sabre Airline Solutions-Ramco alliance is helping the airline better operate its business through an all-encompassing and easy-to-use MRO solution.”

Aerolitoral is transforming its fleet, retiring its Saab 340Bs, a twin-engine turboprop, and replacing them with regional jet Embraer ERJ 145s and the even larger Embraer ERJ 190, five of which are expected to be delivered by September.

“Our fleet has grown by 5 percent per year since 2003,” Aerolitoral’s Garcia said. “We really needed a modern integrated system that would fit our maturity as both a regional and an international carrier.”

“We’re finding that by combining the elegance of the Ramco system with the in-depth airline knowledge and experience of the Sabre Airline Solutions deployment teams worldwide, we’re able to shave valuable time off the implementation phase and empower carriers to realize the return on investment for their MRO systems quickly and painlessly,” Clampett said. “With the industry focus on belt-tightening and scrutiny of costs, expedience is of the essence, and we’re finding that our Ramco solution truly makes a bottom-line difference for our airline customers.”
