Under terms of the agreement, the two companies will create an alliance
for the purpose of jointly marketing maintenance software and services to the
aviation industry. The offering from this alliance will be Mxi’s Maintenix
system, a comprehensive maintenance and engineering system that delivers
integrated functionality for maintenance, engineering, materials and fleet
management.
Current industry estimates show that approximately 9 to 13 percent of an
airlines’ operating cost is attributed to the maintenance of its fleet, and
approximately 20 percent of an airline’s workforce is in maintenance and
engineering. The goal of aviation maintenance software is to help airlines
reduce these maintenance costs while ensuring the safety of its passengers and
crew and minimizing disruptions.
Sabre Airline Solutions primary offering to date for maintenance software
systems is the Sabre Maxi-Merlin maintenance, engineering and inventory
system, an outgrowth of the Merlin system acquired during the conversion of
the US Airways reservations system in 1998.
The Maintenix system will be offered to existing Maxi-Merlin customers as
a replacement system to take advantage of advanced functionality and Web-based
architecture.
“The Maintenix system will take our offering in the maintenance and
engineering areas to a new level with the kind of smart technology we strive
to bring our customers — technology that simplifies the process and provides
near term cost savings,” said Steve Clampett, president of Airline Products
and Services for Sabre Airline Solutions. “A Web-enabled user interface and
an Oracle based platform make Maintenix easy-to-access and easy-to-use. This
combination of access and relational database capability is particularly
important when you realize that the maintenance of an airlines falls within
many different disciplines, crossing many different systems — and in fact,
can be an even greater challenge for airlines to manage than their
reservations systems.”
Maintenix will be integrated into the Sabre AirOps Control suite, which
provides airlines Systems Operation Center (SOC) personnel with centralized,
real-time access to critical data to make the best unbiased decisions for an
airline. In addition, new or existing customers will be able to access
Maintenix through the Sabre eMergo Web-enabled and dedicated network solution,
an application service provider (ASP) offering. This delivery option provides
the technology without the upfront costs and maintenance of hardware and
software systems associated with installing in-house systems.
“We look forward to working with Sabre Airline Solutions to help airlines
achieve business benefits through the application of advanced information
technology to maintenance,” said Matthew Tobin, vice president of Marketing
and Alliances for Mxi Technologies. “We are honored to have Maintenix as
Sabre Airline Solutions’ new M&E offering and we are excited at Sabre Airline
Solution’s unique ability to offer Maintenix to the airline market through a
hosted ASP option.”
Maintenix has been selected by leading organizations throughout the
aviation industry including commercial airlines, corporate jet operators,
aerospace manufacturers and defense operators. Recent activities include a
deal with Boeing to provide maintenance, engineering and logistics software
modules for the Boeing Enterprise One comprehensive maintenance management
system for airlines and a selection by Lockheed Martin for the F-35 Joint
Strike Fighter (JSF) program.
Sabre Airline Solutions will continue to support the Maxi-Merlin system,
and customers can choose to remain on this system at the end of their current
contract.
