New Independent Study Shows Sabre GDS Leads Competitors in Finding the Lowest Fares for Third Consecutive Year

SOUTHLAKE, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 9, 2004–Sabre Travel Network, a Sabre Holdings (NYSE:TSG) company, today released findings from a new low fare search comparison study of global distribution systems (GDS) that revealed the Sabre system is the leader among all GDSs in finding the lowest fares for air sales made in the United States. The study found that using the Sabre GDS can save travelers from $44 to $90 per ticket.

The study, conducted by TOPAZ International, Ltd. the leading provider of airfare analysis and benchmarking data, sampled 60 city pairs with U.S. departures, both domestic and trans-border, with various travel combinations, including Saturday night stay, advance purchase requirements, alternate airports and interline itinerary. Each sample was placed into all of the GDSs and results were compared.

The key findings of the study show:

  • The Sabre GDS still finds the lowest fares when compared to GDS competitors in the US market.
  • Content from carriers participating in the Direct Connect Availability Three-Year Option plays a significant role in the Sabre system’s low fare wins.
  • The Sabre system efficiently uses alternate airports and interline connections to find low fare itineraries.

“For the third consecutive year, an independent study demonstrates that the Sabre system yields the lowest fares of any GDS,” said Hugh Jones, senior vice president of Sabre Travel Network, North America. “Based on Topaz data, the findings show that travel buyers using the other GDSs are overpaying about $75 per ticket on average. The results confirm our commitment to providing customers the ability to be travel experts and to offer their travelers travel products at a price they value.”
