The amalgamation of work, growth, play and learning is what made me choose Sabre, says Anushree Hamirwasia

In January this year, we hired over 60 interns from leading colleges across the country. A few days ago, they completed their six-month internship journey with us, and got inducted as full-time employees. We are really proud of the 2020 batch of interns – in such a short time, they have displayed a lot of skill, knowledge, discernment, ingenuity, and wisdom. To capture their experience and emotions, we reached out to a few of them to share their journey with us. In the first of our intern interview series, we have Anushree Hamirwasia from Travel Solutions with us. Read on to know more.

Congratulations on successfully completing your internship with us. So, tell us about your internship journey and the highs and lows you experienced in last six months. Personally, the past six months have been more eventful than the whole of last year. From checking into The Den, Bangalore and kick-starting the internship to learning in-depth about the vast airline industry – it has been quite a journey! Owing to the pandemic, the internship experience shared by the 2020 batch is unlike any other. However, Sabre ensured that it minimizes any kind of hindrances that may come our way and succeeded in doing so. Working with my cross functional team of Airline Solutions InFlight Delivery, I gained a lot of business domain knowledge along with the technical skills. There were times I was left amazed by the intricacies involved in the planning that occurs on different levels in the industry.  Being able to actively contribute to these planning and execution was another highlight for me. With its great work culture and people, Sabre made the transition from campus to corporate astonishingly seamless. What made you choose Sabre? Sabre has left no stone unturned in terms of providing a memorable internship experience. When I hear about the company I think “I really like my job” and that is as rare as spotting a shooting star (which I still haven’t spotted). It shows immense respect for its employees and vice versa. The breezy company culture and the perfect work-life balance at Sabre, Bangalore drew my attention towards it. Another motivating factor for me, is the leadership team. Whenever any of the leaders from Sabre addressed us, their speeches have been equivalent to a mini-learning experience. Stepping into corporate, I felt that my passion towards graphic designing and writing would fade away. However, teams at Sabre such as the Brand Council and Ascenders gave me plenty of opportunities to pursue my skills of interest. In short, the amalgamation of work, growth, play and learning is what made me choose Sabre. Tell us more about your team and how you feel it helps Sabre re-imagine the business of travel? The Sabre Airline Solutions InFlight System is a software that primarily manages the onboard catering services for the airlines. Being an Associate Business Analyst for the delivery team, I learnt a lot about different airlines in terms of the primary KPIs and business cases. I also worked extensively with SQL and AutoSys Linux to understand the heavy back-end support that is needed with this software. As a silver lining to this unprecedented pandemic, I got the opportunity to do end to end feature functionality testing for the InFlight software’s new release, as a support to the Quality Assurance and Development teams. Everyday there was something new to explore. I keenly look forward to contributing more as a part of this team that streamlines on-board catering for airlines and directly minimizes their wastage by using intelligent business analysis and strategies. What are you working on currently that makes you feel inspired? Owing to the pandemic, as a part of the delivery team I got the opportunity to push organizational boundaries and support InFlight’s QA team for the end to end feature functionality testing for our new release. This was a new experience since I got the chance to act as a pseudo Quality Assurance engineer even though my job role is of a Business Analyst. Currently as a part of the InFlight delivery team, I am working on certain internal initiatives such as improving the delivery process timeline to be even more prompt and efficient in the initial stages of our project implementation. Another internal team initiative circles around the documentation of playbooks and user guides for easy solution adoption on the heavy software of InFlight that deals with multiple screens spread across various modules. Being a part of this team has made me realize the immense planning that goes into bringing the right food on the right flight at the right time. Thanks to Sabre InFlight next time when I order a meal on a flight, I sure will know much more about it than just its price and taste! We’re amidst COVID-19 and everyone is currently working from home (WFH). But you may have gotten a chance to know your team both face to face and virtually. Can you share with us some of your favorite moments and experiences from the last six months that brought you joy?  For me, the highlight of the internship program was definitely the BootCamp. It allowed me to familiarize myself with fellow interns who were also at a similar stage in life i.e. making the giant leap from campus to corporate. Coming from different colleges under the umbrella of Sabre allowed us to build new friendships and meet new faces. Even after we were segregated into different teams, we bonded in multi purpose hall (MPH) during lunch time and at the foosball tables during coffee breaks. Another great experience was the Intern Graduation Day. I have always been a person who believes that it’s the ‘Little things’ that matters the most, and so seeing the Sabre People’s Team curate this event for us and urge us to toss our hats in the air to mark the graduation really struck a chord within me. Overall, there were several occasions during the past sixth months that made me count my blessings but most importantly it was the fact that even in these distressing times of the pandemic, Sabre kept its word and gave all it’s interns a secure career.
