If young women in Poland are deciding on an education path, they typically have the choice between science and art. Most are convinced that science, technology and engineering are masculine subjects and they just leave the field clear for men. Sabre is focused on changing this way of thinking and bringing more women in to the IT field. In order to become a change agent fulfilling this purpose, on September 24th, Sabre Poland took part in Greenlight for Girls – an all-day event dedicated to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) that was held at the University of Economics in Cracow. The purpose of the event was to inspire young women between the age of 11 and 15 to take their studies and career planning to these STEM areas. During the event, 200 girls from Cracow schools participated in workshops and practical activities put on by volunteers and experts who were introducing them to the world of science in a funny and exciting way. As a partner of g4g initiative, Sabre Poland conducted a workshop called “Sending letters as Julius Caesar”. The young women had a chance to get acquainted with methods of coding messages. #TeamSabre hopes that this workshop will inspire girls to pursue STEM subjects. Maybe some of them will even join Sabre one day! Sabre is sharing a common vision with other g4g partners and volunteers to make a positive difference in children’s and society’s future. Greenlight for Girls is an international organization that, since its inception in 2010, has introduced more than ten thousand young women around the world to the world of science, involving over 1300 volunteers and organizing more than 60 events in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
