Sabre employees think about travel, technology, and innovation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That is why main topic of Sabre Krakow Hackathon, which took place on 17-18 October, was Reimagine the travel.

Rules were simple: 24 teams had 24 hours to develop an idea, collaborate with cross-functional, and cross-business unit teams of developers, product managers, business analysts, and UX professional to solve a travel-related problem. Criteria that a traveler may take into consideration when selecting a particular offer, for example, schedule, layover, how often is the flight delayed or canceled, frequent traveler awarded mileage, aircraft equipment, price, preferred carrier, available seats and more.   Sabre employees stepped outside their day to day roles to promote creative thinking in an epic battle of ideas and technology innovation. Product development ideas included the use of new services, as well as other innovation like artificial intelligence for example. A big part of the judging criteria included an evaluation of the business case, use of Sabre APIs, alignment with the goals of the event, how well does it meet market needs, overall pitch, and how it utilizes current tech trends. Sabre’s hackathon has several business opportunities to inspire our dedicated hackathon teams. We call them themes:

There were 24 teams and 24 great ideas, but as in every battle there was only one winner – this time it was amazing Red Team! Sabre and Sponsors organized many workshops for participants – in area of business, technology and user research. Such event couldn’t go without quizzes, chillout zone and great food.
