On February 23 rd, Sabre Polska had the great pleasure to host the 21st Amazon Web Service User Group meetup. The meeting was a first go for Sabre and was organized by our Cloud Team members Robert Rychlik, Dariusz Piechota and Michał Szychowski, who also acted as representatives for Sabre. Our guest host was Adam Smolik, AWS Hero, who joined us from Katowice, Action Centrum Edukacyjne. (https://aws.amazon.com/heroes/europe/adam-smolnik/) The meeting gathered over 50 specialists from various companies in Poland – 1 person from Warsaw, 20 people from the Silesia region (Katowice, Gliwice, Rybnik), and about 30 people from Krakow companies (like ABB, HRS, Comarch), including Sabre. At the beginning, our Head of Cloud Center of Excellence Robert Rychlik talked about AWS migration at Sabre: how it started, how long it took us to successfully complete it, and were we are now. Application migration strategies were discussed by Dariusz Piechota, who also presented the technical demands of migrating from 3rd party managed on-prem to AWS. Michał Szychowski spoke about security groups in a hybrid AWS model. Adam Smolik’s focus was on AWS Polly in Action. In his speech, he introduced possibilities, implementation and integration strategies of Polly service as a component in a server-less architecture (link to presentation http://aws-blog.pl/2017/02/24/weekend-z-polly-czesc-1/). It is an established habit for meetup organizers to provide pizza, so we also followed this routine to dedicate some time to informal chats. It was great to meet, listen and network during such an event. We would like to sincerely thank all of the participants and organizers, and we hope we will meet again soon!
