Market Intelligence (MI) is a market estimation and insights product in Data Analytics (D&A). This business intelligence product delivers critical business insights spanning network planning, revenue management and sales. Insights help airlines attract higher-value customers, identify new opportunities, and respond to market dynamics efficiently. The month-on-month growth of historical data provides insights for important business decisions leading to exponential growth of customers, data and product functionality.

Challenge

Sabre team members noticed that meeting scalability and performance goals often suffered in high demand situations therefore leading to finding a solution through a carefully laid out plan.

What Sabre Did

The plan included:

1. Goal setting:
The goals were identified by forecasting future demand that would help achieve the needed success. We decided to go for:
1. Delivering solution that could cater to next five years of data growth
2. Delivering minimum of 10x performance improvement i.e., product stability, quality (failure <1%)
3. Delivering solution to prevent customer attrition in the next eight months
4. Upskilling team members to new tools to ensure above goals are met

1. Keep customer centricity in mind
2. Prioritize modules based on usage and complexity
3. Gradually phase in new technology to save time, cost, and deliver customer prioritized asks first
4. Upskill team by self-learning, sharing sessions and being part of PoC

3. Work the plan:
1. Teams across different organizations worked together with a single focus to meet goals
2. Right tools/processes were used to monitor and communicate progress across all stakeholders
3. Regular sprint demos were conducted with active participation from all stakeholders

Results

1. MI successfully migrated from OLTP database to OLAP database within planned timelines
2. Performance improved: 13x
3. Report success reached: 99.7%
4. Product usage up: 30%
5. Migration led to exploring Machine Learning possibilities
6. Increased customer retention while supporting new sales
