The first thing that I would like to say is ‘Thank You’. Not only has Sabre given me an extraordinary corporate experience, but immense number of exciting projects, creative challenges and responsibilities that have helped me undergo a holistic development of self.I got the opportunity to undergo my final year internship at Sabre Corporation. The world of travel had always fascinated me. Being an avid traveler myself in a pre-COVID world, Sabre gave me the perfect platform to explore the nuances of the travel domain and unravel the ‘behind the scenes’ of an itinerary of a passenger. My internship commenced with the ‘Intern Bootcamp’, that saw 48 interns collaborate from colleges across the country. From comprehending the nitty-gritty of the Travel and Hospitality industry, to attending hands on sessions of the technologies used by Sabre to power the world of travel, Sabre moulded its interns in a span of just 14 days. We had numerous sessions with industry experts, who gave our curiosity the right direction by answering our questions with their experience and expertise. With the world undergoing a massive transformation owing to the pandemic, we too had to step up and adapt the virtualization. The ‘Ascenders’ team at Sabre, designed activities that fostered communication, collaboration and team building skills among the interns. I even attended my first ever 48 hours long virtual hackathon where I brainstormed with my team to curate and develop solutions that could change the future of travel and hospitality. This forum enabled me to experience an industry level hackathon firsthand. I then started my contribution as a Software Developer in the Air Center Application of the Customer Touchpoints Department of Travel Solutions. A product is as good as a satisfied customer using it. Air Center is a Sabre Booking tool, utilized for flight booking, by agents in the Philippine Market. Every booking is facilitated via a user interface which is the main channel between the customer and Sabre products. I received training and was equipped with skills necessary to contribute to this application. My tasks circled around developing new features/UI enhancements, providing application support, defect fixing and integrating feedback from clients. A basket of tech stacks including Java, Javascript, HTML/CSS, Oracle Database, AWS, coupled with excellent mentorship enabled me to develop optimized user interface in line with identified customer journeys. Apart from my involvement in software development activities, I undertook other organizational responsibilities that helped me to connect with employees from various business units, people I would not have otherwise interacted with in a virtual set up. I joined the performance management team of Sabre Radio team after my first rapid fire segment in Sabre Radio. Every episode is divided into various segments like ‘Saying Thanks’, ‘News around Sabre’, ‘Emotional Quotient Performances’ and some fun rapid-fire rounds. I enjoyed curating ideas for these varied segments and reaching out to people who would feature on the show. The show has also telecasted some very interesting panel discussions and discourse on some off-beat television series. I joined the Sabre Brand Council as I was interested in understanding the nuances of building the brand image of a company. The highlight of my tenure at Sabre Brand Council was the ‘Just Conversations’ initiative, where like-minded people came together to discuss topics that intrigued them. I was endowed with the responsibility of organizing these sessions. With the eradication of office spaces due to the pandemic, this initiative has helped restore the conversations that generally took place within the four walls of an office. The learning curve at Sabre empowered me to excel and channel my creativity. I am elated that I embarked on my corporate journey with Sabre as the starting point.
