The current U.S. government shutdown is an ominous event for the travel and tourism industry.   Not only have major attractions like national parks and other historic sights been closed to visitors, but more than 800,000 federal employees have been furloughed.   This has caused personal crisis for many of these workers.  It also means vast numbers of government employees are no longer traveling.

The U.S. government plays a major role in the travel industry.  Our industry and our business are hurt whenever travel and commerce are constrained.   There needs to be  a swift resolution to the current crisis.

Sabre is a member of the U.S. Travel Association and serves on its board of directors.  The association launched a grassroots campaign this week, which involves contacting members of Congress who represent you in Washington, DC, and expressing your views.

Sabre employees and anyone in the travel and tourism industry should weigh in personally with their concerns.   Our elected leaders need to hear from us.
